I read the book so long ago
that I don’t remember the storyline. Everything I see in the show is new again except the basic story premise, the setting, and the dirty and gritty life of the poor immigrants in NYC of the late 1800s. That’s about all I remember. So I don’t know if the show’s storyline is significantly different or if I just don’t remember. I know I really enjoyed the book at the time. I get the feeling that the TV show has altered the story to make Sarah’s character more prominent and the character development of the men is more superficial and the plot line about using the fledgling field of psychology to find the killer at times is a bit under developed. Maybe Sarah’s not more prominent, but she is the one character of the three main characters you like and want to know more about. But none of that matters because I like the show.
